A new supermarket could be on its way to an area of East Bristol. Plans have been submitted for signage for a Tesco Express with an ATM machine to open at 283 Speedwell Road in Speedwell.

The current site is a warehouse just off the roundabout linking Speedwell Road and Whitefield Avenue. It includes a car park and was previously home to Central Tyre and previously Manor Tyres.

According to property consultants and estate agents Alder King, who listed the warehouse, it is currently under offer. However, planning documents for signage submitted to Bristol City Council by Tesco suggest that it is Tesco, or an associated party, who have made the offer.

The proposed site plan shows that Tesco will occupy the back unit and that there will be 21 car parking spaces to be shared with neighbouring businesses. Six charging points for electric vehicles will be available.

The front unit, identified as ‘Unit 2’, will be a smaller unit with a seven space car park, one of which will be for disabled parking. A proposed site signage plan seems to suggest that a “veterinary practice” will be within the second unit.

The planning documents were submitted to the council on November 18. The council are yet to make a decision on the application, which is for signage and a gantry at the entrance.
