Supermarket shopper snaps selfie with Theresa May in Waitrose

Theresa May has posed for a selfie in a supermarket.

The UK's beleagured PM Theresa May shrugged off her Brexit woes to do a spot of last minute Xmas shopping – and even posed for a selfie with a fellow shopper.

Mrs May, 62, visited a crowded Waitrose store (naturally) with husband Philip pushing her trolley when she was spotted by shopper Charles Chapman.

The Tory leader – who spent the lead up to Christmas facing a Commons' revolt over her controversial plans to leave the EU – managed to muster a smile and even chatted freely with other shoppers.

She even agreed to pose for a photo with Charles as her four bodyguards hovered close by.

Charles was looking for bread at the same time as the PM on Friday night.

He said Mrs May looked glad to be returning to her normal domestic chores and even agreed to take a selfie with him.

He said: "She was in high spirits.

"I thought she had been through a tough time lately so I put my arm around her and asked for a photo.

"When I asked her to press the shutter, she knew what to do."

The graphic designer, from Kiln Green, Berks., bumped into the Prime Minister in the Twyford branch of Waitrose, which is near her Sonning home in Berkshire.

Charles said after posing for the photo the PM wished him a merry Christmas and continued her shop.

He said: "It looked like she was planning a big dinner.

"I have seen her in Waitrose before – but that was before she was one of the most famous people in the world."
