When are supermarkets open over the Easter weekend?

Easter weekend is just around the corner and we can't wait to celebrate the long weekend with family and friends this year. For those planning on pouring some bubbly and cooking up a feast, it's important to note that Easter Sunday supermarket opening hours do vary from normal but we have all the information you need here.

This year, Easter is coming early and actually begins in March as Good Friday falls on the 29th March, Easter Sunday on the 31st March and Easter Monday on the 1st April. While most stores operate normal hours on Easter Saturday, they often operate reduced hours on bank holidays and Easter Sunday.

That's why we've compiled this handy Easter opening hours guide for all the major supermarkets, including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Co-Op, Aldi, Morrisons, Waitrose, Asda and Lidl.

Do remember the majority of supermarkets will be closed on Easter Sunday, but check their websites for your local store. If your nearest supermarket is a smaller, convenience store, chances are it will be open, albeit operating reduced hours.

Aldi

Aldi has confirmed its Easter weekend opening times. While Aldi stores are closed on Easter Sunday, they are open the following times over the Easter weekend.

• Good Friday: 8am-10pm

• Saturday: 8am-10pm

• Easter Sunday: CLOSED

• Easter Monday: 8am-8pm

Asda

Asda says the following opening times apply to most stores over Easter.

Good Friday: 7am-10pm
Saturday: 7am-10pm
Easter Sunday: CLOSED
Easter Monday: 7am-10pm

However, opening times can vary across shops, so you can check your local store's opening times here.

Co-op

As a convenience retailer, Co-op stores will open over the Easter weekend. However on bank holidays stores may open later or close earlier.

Any large stores (280 square metres plus) in England and Wales will close on Easter Sunday, while larger Co-op stores in Scotland will open.

The Co-op says store opening hours can vary locally so customers are encouraged to check with their local stores or online.

Iceland

Iceland stores will be open Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Monday, although those is shopping centres may be an exception.

On Easter Sunday, all stores will be closed, except for Swift, Scottish Core and Food Warehouse, although again there'll be possible exceptions with shopping centres.

Lidl

Lidl says its stores will be open as usual on Good Friday and Saturday, with stores in England and Wales closing on Easter Sunday, before reopening on Easter Monday.

Opening times may vary, so customers are advised to check their local store's opening hours here.

Morrisons

Morrisons stores Easter opening hours are as follows:

Good Friday: 7am - 10pm

Saturday: Open as normal

Easter Sunday: Closed (England & Wales), Open as normal (Scotland)

Easter Monday: 7am - 8pm

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's has confirmed the following opening times:

Good Friday: 7am to 10pm

Easter Saturday: 7am to 10pm

Easter Sunday: England and Wales supermarkets will be closed. Scotland stores will open in line with Sunday trading hours. Convenience stores will also be open as usual from 7am to 10pm.

Easter Monday: 8am to 8pm

Tesco

The opening times of your local Tesco depends on whether it’s a Superstore, Metro or Express store. Tesco suggests you should check the opening times for your local store here.

Waitrose

Good Friday: 08:00 - 20:00
Saturday: Waitrose shops will trade normal hours.
Easter Sunday: Most stores will be closed with some smaller Waitrose shops remaining open.
Easter Monday: 08:00 - 20:00
