Warning! Spoilers for Supernatural season 13, which has not yet aired in the UK, lie ahead.

Season 13 might not have premiered in the UK just yet, but over in the US, Supernatural is hurtling towards its season finale.

So, as the show gets set to wrap things up for the Winchester brothers, series boss Andrew Dabb has been teasing what might be in store for them as we move forward.

And it all sounds very mysterious, if we're being honest.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly ahead of The CW's panel at PaleyFest, Dabb revealed that Supernatural's upcoming season finale "evolves" its characters in a different way.

"This year's finale I think evolves all our characters in a really interesting way," he explained. "With this finale we close some doors, but we also open some interesting doors as well."

Although a 14th run hasn't been officially confirmed for the hit fantasy series, it sounds like there's plenty of material in the pipeline for the show to mine in the future.

"All of our characters come out of it changed in a pretty big way," Dabb warned.

Perhaps that Scooby-Doo crossover will be more permanent than we first thought...

Before we get too ahead of ourselves, it's worth pointing out that there are still some pretty big moments in season 13 to look forward to – including the return of archangel Gabriel.

Clearly as excited as we are about Richard Speight Jr's Supernatural comeback, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki recently confessed they were "thrilled" to see Gabriel out of Hell.

Supernatural airs on The CW in the US. Season 13 is expected to come to E4 in the UK later this year.
