Douglas Luiz’s future at Aston Villa has been the subject of intense recent speculation, with clubs in the Premier League and Italy’s Serie A all linked.

Several outlets are saying Villa are looking at their Profitability & Sustainability Rules calculation before the end of the current accounting period on June 30, although Reach’s Business of Football reporter Dave Powell says the club are in a position where they can choose who they sell, if they indeed even need to do so.

Luiz had a superb first full campaign under Unai Emery and there certainly seems to be a very active market for the 26-year-old’s services – with Arsenal known to be a long-time admirer of the Brazilian.

Milan and Juventus have also been linked but Luiz has been clear in his belief his ambitions can be fulfilled by staying at Villa.

However, neither the Gunners nor the gilded Italian duo are listed as the favourites to sign the former Manchester City man. The latest odds from SkyBet list Liverpool as the most likely destination – but there’s only a 25 per cent chance of even that. Indeed none of Luiz’s rumoured suitors are odds-on, so it seems eminently possible, probable even, that the midfielder will stay at Villa Park.
