Jason Roy has been ruled out of Friday's T20 Blast meeting with Glamorgan after sustaining a facial injury following his dismissal on Wednesday.

Roy was bowled out for a duck and accidentally injured himself in frustration in what he refers to as a "a moment of stupidity" after returning to the dressing room.

Despite the early setback, Aaron Finch and Nic Maddison successfully steered Surrey to a crucial win over Hampshire setting up Friday's do-or-die clash in Cardiff.

“I am really disappointed to be missing out on tonight’s game. Following my dismissal on Wednesday evening – I threw my bat into the ground purely out of self-frustration. It bounced, hit me, and as a result I sustained the injury.

“I’m extremely embarrassed and apologetic to my team mates and fans for this moment of stupidity. I want to apologise to Surrey as a club and all the members. I’ve never been so motivated and so positive about my game, and I assure you I will learn from my mistake as I am my own biggest critic.

“In the meantime, I’ll be doing all I can to support the team as we aim to finish the season successfully.”

Surrey now need to beat Glamorgan in Cardiff on Friday and hope that Middlesex can arrest their remarkable run of poor form and beat Sussex.

That way, Surrey would sneak through in fourth place alongside Somerset, Kent and Gloucestershire.
