A popular garden in Surrey has closed on Sunday (November 24) as Storm Bert brings high winds to the county. RHS Garden Wisley has been shut to the public due to the "worsening weather conditions", a spokesperson has confirmed.

The decision has been made to ensure the "safety of visitors, staff and volunteers." The garden was also forced to cancel its RHS Glow 2024 which aimed to bring festive illuminations to Surrey.

A spokesperson said: "We are very sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this is likely to cause. All RHS Glow visitors for today will be able to rebook their tickets to another day of their choice." RHS Glow is taking place until January 5. People can email their booking details at wisley@rhs.org.uk.

In Richmond, Kew Gardens was also forced to shut its doors to the public yesterday and it repeated its closure announcement this morning. The Christmas event Christmas at Kew is also cancelled this evening

It comes as a yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office (November 24). The weather warning is in place between 8am on Sun 24 Nov 2024 and 9pm. The alert warns people of transport disruption throughout the day. It reads: "Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely. Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer. Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely."
