Surrey and Hazelwood house charity night

This year was a rare occasion for members of Surrey and Hazelwood at St Johns school as their annual charity evening saw two houses combined to create a bigger and better event.

This year we were supporting Momentum Children’s charity as it was local to the school. Momentum help families around South-West London, Surrey and Sussex whose children are facing life challenging conditions.

The charity was created in 2004 and every single day they have made a positive difference to the families for as long as needed. They have a very passionate and hard working group of volunteers, one of which came to speak on charity night making key points about how they can decorate rooms for children in care, send the family on a holiday get away, have fridges with ice creams on the side of the children’s bed and many more things to make their lives better. The team also have key ambassadors such as Tom Holland, who is an actor who plays the character ‘Spider-man’ who also visits the children regularly.

On the evening, there were 11 tables of the respected parents and carers of the members of the two houses, who were also there to support with service and logistics of the evening. The theme of the evening was ‘Casino Royale’ from James bond with the music played by the wonderful pupils and many games around the dining hall for parents to play to try to win some prises. Other events such as the silent auction and raffle were also great hits. The evening consisted of a three course meal for the parents made by the brilliant catering staff. Behind the scenes the organisation of the evening couldn’t be done without the work of the Upper 6th of each houses and the respected head of houses who all helped make the evening a great success.

Overall it was an amazing evening with lot’s of great money raised for a great cause.
