Surrey town undergoing big retail redevelopment to get first Wetherspoon pub
Farnham is set to have its first JD Wetherspoon pub open after the company purchased the site of the former Slug & Lettuce.
The building is on East Street and near to Farnham's Brightwells Yard development, a still under construction retail area set to include big name shops, restaurants and a cinema, and the purchase will add another recognisable brand to the town's centre.
No official opening date has yet been confirmed but a JD Wetherspoon spokesperson confirmed the news. The spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Wetherspoon has exchanged to purchase the former Slug & Lettuce site in East Street, Farnham."

"The company is looking forward to opening the new pub. At present there are no on site or opening dates. (But) Wetherspoon is confident that its new pub will be an asset to the town."
The purchase of the building on East Street comes following uncertain times for the Slug & Lettuce and the chain's owners, Stonegate. It was announced in January of this year that hundreds of Stonegate pubs, which also includes popular chains such as Yates and Walkabout, could be at risk of closure as Stonegate's private equity parent company TDR Capital seeks to refinance debt totalling £2.5bn.
