Survivor of Capsized Shrimp Trawler Rescued by Coast Guard

A search for two fishermen still missing after a fishing vessel capsized in North Carolina was called off on January 8, local media reported.

The US Coast Guard suspended its search for two mariners – Sammy Douglas and Keyron Davis – who were reported missing after the shrimp trawler Papa’s Girl capsized in the Pamlico Sound. The boat was a few miles from home when it capsized because of strong winds, WITN reported.

In a dramatic video captured by the US Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, an officer can be seen swimming to the life raft that carries the fisherman and pulling the man to safety.

“Chief Petty Officer David Downham, a rescue swimmer at Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, pulls a survivor from a life raft,” the coast guard said in a press release.

“The survivor was one of four people aboard the 42-foot commercial fishing vessel when it capsized earlier that night,” it added.
