The latest episode of Susan Calman's Grand Day Out paid a visit to Stoke-on-Trent so the comedian could learn more about the "little treasures" handed down to her by relatives. The Channel 5 cameras were at the Wedgwood pottery factory for series eight's latest instalment.

The Scottish TV presenter was discovering what's on offer in Cheshire and the surrounding areas, which resulted in her taking her vintage campervan to the Barlaston-based site. She chatted with factory staff - who had worked on 1,000 pieces over the course of the day - while also learning more about Burslem-born Josiah Wedgwood.

Explaining why she was so keen to visit the factory, Susan told viewers: "In my house I've got what I call my cabinet of precious things. It's a display cabinet and it's full of little treasures that have been left by my grannies and other relatives.

"And in it, there is the Wedgwood plates. Now I've always wondered about it but why keep on wondering when you can come to the source to find the answers."

Inside, the 50-year-old went on to reveal why was worried about her trip to the Potteries. Thankfully the nerves subsided when she got to see the workers in action.

"It's such a treat actually to see behind the scenes of what's happening because you don't know do you?" she said. "You've got this stuff in your house and you don't know how it's made or who's made it.

"Do you know I was a bit worried about coming here - I've got that condition when I go to the China department in a department store where I think I'm going to smash everything. It's an actual condition. So that's why I'm walking quite slowly with arms by my side!"

After learning more about Wedgwood in the dedicated museum, it was time for Sarah to have a go at making a pottery piece of her own. She'd earmarked her creation as a potential Christmas present for a relative - but it's fair to say the finished product didn't quite go to plan."

"It didn't look like this in the film Ghost did it?!" joked Sarah.
