Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid has suggested that the BBC needs to do more to close the gender pay gap.

The former BBC, now-ITV star's comments come amid speculation over her salary compared to that of her co-presenter Piers Morgan.

"The BBC has a particular responsibility because it's public money," she told Radio Times (via The Mirror). "And it's vital feminist voices are heard, and I call myself a feminist."

Last year, Morgan appeared to reveal his salary amid the revelations of the BBC's highest-earning stars' own salaries.

On Twitter, the presenter claimed that he earned over "£22,5000,000" – though that is likely not all coming from ITV as he has other work.

However, it remains in question whether Susanna gets paid the same for her work on GMB.

The pay disparity between men and women at the BBC has come under fire in the last few weeks following the resignation of the broadcaster's China editor Carrie Gracie.

She quit her job last week and accused the BBC of having a "secretive and illegal pay culture".

Following the news, a controversial leaked recording surfaced of Radio 4's Today host John Humphrys appearing to joke about the gender pay gap.

In response, the BBC said: "This was an ill-advised off-air conversation which the presenter regrets.

"The BBC is committed to getting its pay structures right and, as we have said, we are conducting a comprehensive analysis of presenter pay."
