They are well known for their spats on breakfast TV and now Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan have taken it on to social media.

The Good Morning Britain pair have clashed on Twitter over the Donald Trump visit to the UK and the subsequent protests.

The clash started when Morgan, not shy of giving his opinion, criticised protesters after the much-publicised ‘Trump baby’ blimp floated past the Westminster statue of Britain’s World War Two leader, Winston Churchill.

Sir Winston Churchill reduced to this. Shame on everyone involved in this pathetic balloon stunt,’ said Morgan.

To get the message across he also posted a picture of what was happening.

The message has been retweeted more than 1, 300 times by Morgan’s more than six million followers, one of who is famously Donald Trump.

That was too much for his co-presenter Reid who tweeted back that Churchill would have approved of the protest, and used one of the leader’s quotes to emphasise her point.

‘Some people’s idea of [free speech] is that they are free to say what they like but if anyone says anything back, that is an outrage. Sir Winston Churchill, 1943.’

That message has been retweeted almost 500 times.

Never one to let somebody else have the last word, Morgan snapped back that the blimp was ‘pathetic’.

The two then went on to trade further social media barbs, without there being a clear winner.

The presenting pair regularly clash on breakfast TV, but rarer are their spats on Twitter.

The row might be good for figures as well.

This week Good Morning Britain captured its largest audience share since the show launched.
