Suspect pulled from river after man seriously assaulted in Somerset
A man pulled from a river was arrested in connection with an assault in a Somerset town. Police, paramedics and the fire service were called to Fore Street, Bridgwater, after a man was seriously injured on Friday night (November 18).
The assault took place at about 8.30pm. A man in his 50s remains in hospital today (Monday, November 18), having sustained serious injuries in the incident. His wounds are not believed to be life threatening or life changing, Avon and Somerset Police said.
At the scene, police officers found another man, aged 35, in a nearby river and pulled him to safety. He was then arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has since been released on bail.

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the incident.
