Suspected dealer refused to stop during police chase

A suspected dealer has appeared in court after refusing to stop during a police chase. On Sunday, October 20, Kent Police tried to stop the driver of a Kia that had travelled through Medway Tunnel without its headlights on.

The car refused to stop and is reported to have been driven dangerously towards the town centre where the driver left on foot near the bus station. Officers found and seized bags of cannabis from the car and enquiries were completed to identify the driver.

On Tuesday, November 5 officers were on patrol in Christopher Road when they detained a suspect. The man is alleged to have obstructed them while he was being searched and he was taken into custody.

The officers also seized deals of cannabis and cocaine. Kehinde Karunwi, of no fixed address, was later charged with possessing cocaine with intent to supply, two counts of possessing cannabis with intent to supply, dangerous driving, failing to stop a vehicle when required by a constable and obstructing an officer.

Mr Karunwi, 31, appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 7. He was remanded in custody to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday December 6.
