Suspected Paris Attacks Mastermind Salah Abdeslam Pictured In Prison For First Time

This is the first photo of suspected Paris attacks mastermind Salah Abdeslam in a Bruges jail after he was captured last month.

In the photo, the suspected terrorist mastermind appears downbeat - after he was captured in the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek following extensive police raids.

He is believed to have played a key role in last November’s attacks on the French capital which left 130 people dead - having rented cars and organised safe houses for other members of the ISIS splinter cell.

Niewsblad reports that Abdeslam has been described as a ‘model prisoner’ and is constantly under watch by guards - after fears arose that he may try to harm himself.

The beard that Abdeslam sports in the photo is a contrast from his clean cut appearance on the photo issued when he was a wanted man - and is thought to have been grown as a disguise in the intervening months.

Paris was devastated by terror attacks in November last year

A prison source told Niewsblad: ‘'We do not have to report any negative comment about his doings. And his appetite is excellent.’

The 26-year-old is thought to have been planning to detonate his own suicide vest on the night of the Paris attacks - but changed his mind at the last minute, and dumped the vest before fleeing over the border to Belgium.

Abdeslam’s arrest came shortly before the terror attacks at Brussels Airport on March 22nd

He evaded arrest until 18 March - when he was shot in the leg and arrested.

He was tracked down to the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek, where it’s believed that several members of the terror cell were living before they went to Syria.

His arrest came only four days before a devastating series of suicide attacks on Brussels Airport and Maalbeek metro station that claimed the lives of 32 people.
