'Suspicious activity' leads police to giant cannabis factory

Police stumbled on a cannabis factory loaded with hundreds of plants after being called to 'suspicious activity' in a Staffordshire neighbourhood. A 43-year-old man was arrested following the find in Stafford.

Staffordshire Police say officers had been called to a home 'near' Brereton Way at around 9.30am on Wednesday morning. They discovered 776 cannabis plants as well as lights and transformers.

StokeonTrentLive had reported how neighbourhood cops had estimated the number of plants found to be 'more than 800'. However the constabulary has since offered up a new figure while revealing that a 43-year-old man, from Stafford, was arrested on suspicion of abstracting / using without authority electricity and cultivating cannabis plants.

A police spokesman said: "Having questioned him in custody, no further action was taken."

Witnesses should call the force on 101 and quote incident number 186 of June 5.
