Yahoo News Sustainability Gets Sophisticated With Designer Delia Kenza

For the 2022 edition of Design on a Dime, Housing Works’ annual benefit that took place in April, ELLE DECOR selected Brooklyn-based designer Delia Kenza to create a provocative vignette. Her mission was to make a beautiful, livable, and—most important—eco-friendly interior that bucked the tired shibboleth that green living isn’t pretty. “No earth tones, wood, or ‘bringing nature in’ here,” Kenza says. She knows sustainable design can be so much more.
To prove her point, Kenza worked with star brands from across the interior design firmament. She filled the space with a sleek Caesarstone recycled quartz side table and pedestals, ergonomic and net-positive chairs and an -energy-efficient pendant from Humanscale, throw pillows and a dramatic curtain of recycled polyester fabrics from Kravet, as well as an antique (or “pre-loved,” as Kenza refers to it) chaise longue from Jayson Home in a sumptuous red velvet. To tie these disparate elements together, Kenza covered the floor with carpet tiles from Flor to form a bold zigzag pattern. “The tiles are very environmentally friendly because you can remove and wash or replace sections as they get stained,” she says.
The final result was a green space of forward-thinking sophistication that embodies Kenza’s axiom: “Sustainable doesn’t have a single look.”
