Swimmers have been turned away from a Leicester swimming baths after "technical issues". Leicester Leys swimming pool in Beaumont Leys shut its pool on Monday (January 13) due to technical problems that continue to affect the facility more than 24 hours later.

The closure was announced when bosses said "technical issues" had forced them to temporarily shut. The pool remains closed as of Tuesday morning (January 14) as engineers work to resolve the problem.

A spokesperson for Leicester City Council has now revealed the specific nature of the fault. They said the poolside temperature had dropped too low due to problems with equipment.

The issues first came to light when Active Leicester, which manages the city's leisure facilities, posted an update on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Customer Update: Leicester Leys swimming pool is temporarily closed due to technical issues. We'll provide updates as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding."

A Leicester City Council spokesman said: "The issue is with the air handling unit which means the poolside temperature is too low. Engineers are working to fix it."

A representative for Leicester Leys leisure centre told LeicestershireLive on Tuesday that engineers were expected to be on site today. When asked about a potential reopening time, they said it depended on "the size of the job".
