While not necessarily a reason to criticise him, the oldest cup competition in the world is the only honour in England Pep Guardiola hasn’t had a stranglehold over.
Exactly how much that matters to him is, of course, up for debate (particularly having won it once) but it does at least make it more open than either the Carabao Cup - this season aside - and the Premier League.
That’s not to say Swindon have much of a chance, however.
Under Guardiola’s watch, City have made light work of these kind of games, no matter what sort of team they deploy.
Date, kick-off time and venue

Swindon Town vs Manchester City team news
Pep Guardiola and assistant Juanma Lillo will both miss the match with City’s Covid-19 cases topping 21 on Thursday, seven of which are first-team players. Assistant coach Rodolfo Borrell will take charge from the dugout.
Phil Foden and Oleksandr Zinchenko both missed the win at Arsenal after testing positive, while Riyad Mahrez is at AFCON and John Stones is a doubt due to a knock.
Borrell told reporters: “It's possibly one of the easiest line-ups to decide: we just play with the ones available. We don't have many more.”
Jake O’Brien, who joined Swindon from Crystal Palace on loan earlier this month, could make his debut.
Swindon Town vs Manchester City prediction
With all due respect to Swindon, it’s almost impossible to imagine them beating City, even if there are wholesale changes.
