Yahoo News Sydney Sweeney's new maid thriller confirms 2025 release date
The Housemaid, the upcoming film starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, has confirmed a release date in 2025.
The thriller, which is based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel, follows a struggling woman (Sweeney) who begins to work as a housemaid for a wealthy couple (played by Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar), only to discover they harbour some dangerous family secrets.
Variety has now reported that Lionsgate has booked a slot for Christmas Day in 2025.

Joining Sweeney, Seyfried and Sklenar in the cast is Michele Morrone, with Paul Feig – best known for Bridesmaids, Spy and A Simple Favour – directing a script written by Rebecca Sonnenshine; Sweeney, Seyfried and Feig are also serving as executive producers.

“Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erin Westerman upon the project’s announcement.
“We’re thrilled to team them with Paul Feig, who we worked with on A Simple Favour and its upcoming sequel, and has a proven track record of developing stories with dynamic female leads.”

Sweeney, who has recently starred in Anyone But You and Immaculate, celebrated her involvement in the project with a playful clip on Instagram, writing: “Tell me about yourself, Millie #TheHousemaidMovie – coming soon!!” as she was filmed reading the novel.
The Housemaid is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2025.
