Sydney's Iconic Bondi Beach Disappears in Sea Fog

Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach was barely visible on Monday, December 17, as a thick sea fog swept over the tourist hotspot.

The grey haze, which experts said was caused by warm air and weak winds, dramatically reduced visibility along the foreshore.

The Bureau of Meteorology, New South Wales, said the weather event was ‘slightly unusual’.

“While it’s not necessarily common to see #fog in the afternoon, the current moist conditions over the sea are conducive to it. Might hang around for a bit,” the BoM said in a Twitter update at around 2:14 pm on Monday.

BoM forecaster David Wilkie told the ABC that the weather phenomenon was associated with humid air conditions.

“In Sydney, we’ve had some very humid days over the last week or so,” Mr Wilkie said.

“Typically those kind of conditions we see more regularly in February … this period of increased [fog] is a little early in the season.” Credit: @dylanransomhughes via Storyful
