The Mayor of Symi has provided a detailed account and possible theory after a body, believed to be that of the missing TV personality Michael Mosley, was found beside Agia Marina on Symi this Sunday.

The discovery follows an extensive search for the television doctor who disappeared while on holiday on the Greek island with his spouse Dr Clare Bailey since Wednesday. The mayor now suggests that Dr Mosley - if the body is confirmed to be the TV doctor - likely met his demise after a fall from a cliff into the sea, estimated at about 10 metres (32ft).

Mayor Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas disclosed in a statement: "During our search, and as we were approaching a cave next to the Agia Marina beach, we were shooting along the coastline with cameras. We saw an object next to a fence on the beach and when we zoomed in we realised that it was Michael Mosley's body. He had probably fallen from a short cliff of about 10 metres."

While formal identification is pending to confirm whether the body is indeed that of the missing television doctor, rescue teams have been actively searching for Dr Mosley since his disappearance on Wednesday, reports Birmingham Live.

The search operation included the use of drones and sniffer dogs, initially sparked by fears that he may have fallen during a walk from a beach to the village of Pedi.

However, the search efforts later shifted towards the rugged terrain near a complex of caves known locally as The Abyss.
