Syrian rebel group Ahrar al-Sham made unconfirmed claims on March 4 that it shot down a MiG fighter jet in northern Idlib province.
Turkish news outlet Daily Sabah echoed that report, adding that the jet crashed in southeastern Turkey and that the pilot ejected safely, while Hurriyet cited Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım as saying a Syrian military jet had crashed near the Syrian border. The pro-Syrian government news organization Al Masdar said Syrian officials confirmed the loss of a MiG-21, but ascribed the crash to engine failure.
This video was shared to Ahrar al-Sham’s social media accounts, and purports to show the moment the rebel group fired on the aircraft. This footage, and the claims of the group, are yet to be verified. Credit: Ahrar al-Sham via Storyful
