Scottish music event T in the Park won’t be returning, it has been confirmed.

"It was an amazing festival, but it ran its course," organiser Geoff Ellis told Newsbeat on Friday 12 July.

"You can always look fondly on the past. Everyone loved T and we all had great fun doing it,” he added.

"It was really the third major festival in the UK. We've got some great memories…we'll always have them and so will all the people who grew up with it."

T in the Park ran for 23 years before it was forced to "take a break" in 2016 because of difficulties at its new site. Over its run, it has been held at Strathclyde Park in Lanarkshire and a disused Balado airfield in Perth and Kinross.

The following year, it was moved to Strathallan Castle in Perthshire after concerns were raised about an oil pipeline running under the previous site.

Further restrictions reportedly had a negative effect on festival-goers in 2015, resulting in numerous complaints about traffic delays and other problems.

Some of the festival’s biggest headline acts have included Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, The Who, Coldplay, Beyoncé and Oasis.

Now, Ellis says he wants to concentrate on TRNSMT, a festival he kick-started in July 2017. This weekend (12-14 July), thousands are expected to descend upon Glasgow Green to see the likes of Mabel, Stormzy, Years & Years and Example perform.

"Things move on and we keep creating,” Ellis concluded. “The festival scene's really, really healthy these days and it's great to still be amongst it."
