Robert Carlyle has revealed he had a tooth removed to prepare for his role in Trainspotting sequel, T2.

Carlyle, 55, reprised his role as the psychotic Francis Begbie, and said he altered his physical appearance to give “colour” to the character.

Speaking on Lorraine he said: “I had a temporary crown in my bottom set of teeth. And because I needed a few months to get it replaced and healed – so with filming commitments I didn’t really have time to do that.

“It had been sitting there for about a year and a half, so I thought ‘well, this is the moment to do it, let’s just take this out for Begbie’.

“But when I took that one out, the other tooth had been lying beside it and was weak, so I thought ‘well, might as well take that one out as well!”

He continued: “When I saw that it gave…it gives it a little bit of colour, a little bit of detail, and you can imagine he’s probably lost that in the prison somewhere.”

Carlyle was reunited with his former co-stars Ewan McGregor and Johnny Lee Miller for the brand new film which is based loosely on Irvine Welsh’s Porno, but has been updated to fit in with the timeframe of the sequel.

Speaking at the film’s premiere in Edinburugh, Carlyle hinted that a third instalment could be in the pipeline.

“We’ve been talking about that, I am up for doing it,” he said. “So maybe we ain’t seen the end of Begbie just yet.”

Carlyle's co-star McGregor was also invited to ITV on Tuesday morning to discuss the highly anticipated sequel.

McGregor was scheduled to make an appearance on Good Morning Britian but pulled out after Piers Morgan made some controversial comments about the Women’s March on Saturday.

The actor tweeted: “Was going on Good Morning Britain, didn’t realise @piersmorgan was host. Won’t go on with him after his comments about #WomensMarch.”
