Former chart rivals Damon Albarn and Noel Gallagher have announced that they will be collaborating. The Blur frontman and Oasis guitarist have been holed in the studio together recording a special musical project for Damon’s band, Gorrilaz. Speaking to Radio X about recording with Noel which also features Savages’ Jehnny Beth, Albarn said it was “really great” and that Gallagher is “fantastic in the studio”.
Alex James thinks it’s about time Blur’s oldest rivals reunited and said it would be “a disaster” if warring brother Noel and Liam Gallagher never reformed Oasis. The 47-year-old bass player chatted to Yahoo Celeb to tell us about the poetry competition he’s launched with Great Western Rail for National Poetry Day today but we couldn’t resist hearing his thoughts on the question every Britpop fan is asking this week. It looks like Adele and Blur’s Damon Albarn are still very much crossed off each other’s Christmas card list. The pair fell out last year after Adele attempted to get the singer to collaborate on her latest album, 25 – and judging by scenes witnessed at the Ivor Novello awards on Thursday, Damon’s still pretty bitter about the whole thing. According to The Sun, the Gorillaz singer was overheard telling Adele’s manager, Jonathan Dickins, that the Grammy Award-winning artist had treated him ‘appallingly’ over the past few months.
The star worked with Damon for her new album, ‘25′, but unfortunately none of his contributions made the cut, with Damon later dubbing Adele’s record “very middle of the road”. Damon had previously said of his and Adele’s studio sessions: “Adele asked me to work with her and I took the time out for her. Responding to his comments, 27-year-old Adele told Rolling Stone: “It ended up being one of those ‘don’t meet your idol’ moments.
Legend has it that you should never meet your idols - isn’t that right, Adele? The singer has admitted that she wishes she hadn’t collaborated with Damon Albarn on her new album ‘25′ because it turned into one of those ‘don’t meet your idol’ moments. Damon later told the media that Adele was ‘insecure’ and called her music ‘very middle of the road’.
