The actor played the Time Lord's companion - but says she struggled with confidence earlier in her career.
Bill is set to be accompanied – in at least “most episodes”, according to Steven Moffat, but possibly “all of them” – by Nardole, as played by Matt Lucas. Nardole has appeared twice already, in the Christmas specials The Husbands of River Song and The Return of Doctor Mysterio. At the minute, it seems to be the case that Nardole has been included largely because Matt Lucas is a talented comedian, a big name, and presumably a lot of fun to work with.
It looks as though Joss Whedon would be up for writing ‘Doctor Who’. Appearing at San Diego Comic Con, the 52-year-old former Marvel director revealed that he’s not sure about writing an episode of ‘Doctor Who’… but all that might change if The Doctor was a woman. Of course, Whedon isn’t the only big-name director to be interested in the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series… with Peter Jackson also desperate to tackle the iconic Time Lord.
Matt Lucas is back – joining Peter Capaldi on the ‘Doctor Who’ set. Arriving in Cardiff to film scenes for the upcoming ‘Doctor Who’ series 10, the 42-year-old comedian looked delighted to be back… and we even spotted him sharing a laugh with Peter Capaldi on set. ‘Doctor Who’ Series 10 is currently filming on location at Cardiff University, where we found Matt Lucas and Peter Capaldi filming a fairly energetic scene in front of one of the University buildings.
‘Doctor Who’ companion Pearl Mackie has filmed her first scenes. After Clara Oswald’s heart-breaking exit during ‘Doctor Who’ Series 9, newcomer Pearl Mackie was introduced as the new companion. Of course, the reveal of Pearl Mackie as the new companion proved to be hugely popular… and was announced with a rather cool short video which aired during the FA Cup Semi-Final between Everton and Manchester United.
Last night Pearl Mackie was named as Doctor Who’s new assistant, Bill, taking over from Jenna Coleman. Pearl, who will hit screens for the 10th series, was announced during the FA Cup semi-final match. There was even an exciting trailer which showed her and Peter Capaldi tackling a Dalek.
In a special announcement on today’s Match of the Day, the BBC have revealed who is to play the Doctor’s new companion in Season 10 - Pearl Mackie! Mackie also works as an acting coach for children, where she’s said to have “vibrant optimism”, and is skilled at “mixing maturity with immaturity” - both key attributes for a Doctor Who companion! A scene featuring Peter Capaldi alongside Pearl Mackie showed the Doctor and his new companion, Bill, up against the Daleks - you can see that scene below, here.
