Last night the reality TV star revealed on Instagram that she would be making a “new drop” of mobile keyboard images available to buy via her app. Soon after, the Instagram account dedicated to promoting her Kimoji range featured controversial images of Kim dressed as the Virgin Mary.

The ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star employed an artist to draw her in the likeness of Mary, the mother of Jesus of Nazareth – the historic figure who resembles God on Earth in Christianity – and has offended thousands of members of her own religion.

Mary – who is also known as Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, Virgin Mary, and Mother Mary – is a saint and is the most important figure in the Catholic religion aside from her son.

Soon after she posted the images, which included one of her dressed as the Virgin Mary on a baptism candle, the star’s Kimoji Instagram account errupted into a blaze of comments slamming the 36-year-old mother-of-two.

Users were outraged that Kim – whose son is called Saint West – had used a symbol of the Catholic Church to promote herself, with one writing: “Take that down!”

Another said: “This is a disgrace your trying to make money from our faith. No you aren’t a virgin no Kanye is not a god. Are u trying to start ur own religion . 100% disrespect .”

Another raged: “Kim how dare you , you are claiming yourself as a Christian but yet you’re comparing yourself to our Virgin Mother Mary . Why would you lower yourself to that extent especially after what you have been through . I’m sure you’re dad would be so ashamed of you .”

Kim invited more controversy earlier this week by saying she was glad she contracted the flu because it will help her to lose weight in time for the annual Met Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute next month.

She wrote on Twitter: “The flu can be an amazing diet. So happy it came in time for the Met lol #6lbsdown”
