From Digital Spy

There was collective joy when Netflix announced that Tales of the City was being given a fresh lick of paint and would be returning to our screens for a brand-new series.

Armistead Maupin's series of nine novels, which originally began life as a serialised column in the San Francisco Chronicle, spawned multiple radio adaptations on BBC Radio 4, and three TV adaptions.

The narrative centred on the close-knit LGBTQ community living at 28 Barbary Lane, San Francisco, and the show itself was revolutionary, normalising same-sex relationships during a time before the likes of Queer as Folk and The L Word landed.

The fourth chapter begins with Mary Ann, who has left Connecticut to return to Barbary Lane, where she comes face to face with her daughter Shawna, ex-husband Brian, and numerous other familiar faces.

But are there plans to keep the ball rolling? Officially, it's categorised as a "limited series", but this is Netflix we're talking about. If the appetite is there and enough people have tuned in, there's every chance we could get another chapter.

Here's everything you need to know about Tales of the City season two (or five, if you prefer) on Netflix.

Tales of the City season 2 on Netflix cast: Who's in it?

Laura Linney and Ellen Page headed up the sequel as Mary Ann and Shawna respectively, but Linney has been there from the very beginning, appearing in the 1993 original of the same name, More Tales of the City in 1998, and Further Tales of the City in 2001, as did Olympia Dukakis (Anna).

Paul Gross also returned as Brian.

But whether they will return, along with the others, remains to be seen.

Tales of the City season 2 on Netflix streaming: Where can I watch it?

The sequel, which aired on June 7 this year, is available to watch now on Netflix. But series one and two are both available to watch on All4 in the UK.

And the original will also be hitting Netflix US, Canada and Australia on June 28, with More Tales of the City and Further Tales of the City also being added to the latter two.

In the US, Showtime hold the rights to series two and three. Keeping up?

How many episodes will there be?

The most recent series was the longest to date with ten episodes (series one had just five, and series two was slightly longer with six).

So if it does return, it's hard to say exactly what will be on offer.

Release date: when will it air?

Season two is currently up in the air, but if it is greenlit, we'd probably expect it to hit Netflix next year.

When will the trailer drop?

With no word yet on whether we're getting a second season, it's far too early to be thinking about a trailer.

But if we do get one, we'll pop it right here, just for you.
