It's the day you never knew existed but international Talk Like a Pirate Day has arrived.Yep, an entire day has been set aside for people to chat in pirate lingo and shiver me timbers it's catching ...
Wednesday September 19 has been proclaimed International Talk Like a Pirate Day, reportedly based on a romanticised view of the Golden Age of Piracy.
Despite what you may have read or seen on TV (we're looking at you, messrs Jack Sparrow et al), being a pirate probably wasn't much fun and would usually end in early death from war, disease or scurvy.
But hey, don't let a little bit of historical revisionism deter you from speaking like an old, salty sea dog - savvy?
Talk Like A Pirate Day was first started as a bit of a joke in 1995 by two friends, it soon picked up traction after coming to the attention of American humour columnist Dave Barry in 2002, and has now become tradition for many.
And why September 19? Well, it was the birthday of one of the founder's ex-wives.
So how do you talk like a pirate? Well, read our list below to include some piratey joy into your life.
