Tampa Bay-Area Residents Wait in Hours-Long Line to Collect Sandbags

A long line of cars waited to collect sandbags in Ruskin, Florida – a community in the Tampa Bay area – on Monday, September 26, ahead of the anticipated arrival of Hurricane Ian.

The Hillsborough County Government issued multiple evacuation orders in the region and encouraged residents of mobile and manufactured homes to evacuate.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Ian is expected to impact Cuba on September 26 before it reaches Florida on September 27. The NHC forecasted that parts of Florida will experience life-threatening storm surges and hurricane-force winds as Ian approaches.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency on September 24 in response to the hurricane.
