A new taproom and bar could be opening its doors in Cambridge city centre. This follows after a premises licence application was put forward to the city council.

The bar, known as Cambridge Taproom, will be located at Unit A of the recent redevelopment of 6-18 King's Street by Christ's College. It plans to sell around 15-20 varieties of craft beer, with a focus on local products, in a modern and comfortable taproom setting.

Opening hours for the venue are proposed to be from 11am to 11pm Monday to Thursday, until 11:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and until 10:30pm on Sundays. It is also hoping to supply alcohol from when it first opens to 30 minutes before closure.

A statement with the application, which was submitted on May 23, 2024, said: "The fit-out of Unit A will deliver a comfortable, relaxing, and welcoming space with a focus on local product and talent.

"The plan is to sell fresh craft beer through 15-20 chilled lines in a modern Taproom bar setting. The draft beer will be supported with takeaway fridges stocked with premium beers, wines, and non-alcoholic offerings to provide an off-sales revenue stream.

"As a fledgling independent business in the heart of the city, the goal will be to forge relationships with the local community and with other businesses. This will be underpinned by socially-aware values that reflect those of the city our staff, and our suppliers with a commitment to responsible drinking, equal opportunity, sustainability, and recycling wherever possible.

"As company owners, we have previous experience in this field with our existing businesses - Baron Brewing in Buntingford, and The Hop Box in Ware, East Herts. The Cambridge project represents an amalgamation of the two."

A decision on the application will be made by Cambridge City Council at a later date. For more information about the plans, click here.
