Tate Modern is offering free entry to its hit Soul of Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power exhibition this Friday.

Visitors can see the landmark exhibition of African American art as part of the gallery’s upcoming Uniqlo Tate Late, taking place on Friday evening (August 25).

The event, which coincides with the start of Notting Hill Carnival weekend, will also feature music, films and interactive activities.

Short films inspired by the exhibition from Zawe Ashton, Kahlil Joseph, Cecile Emeke and Andy Mundy-Castle will be shown, and there will be music from James Massiah, Lala &ce, CKtrl, Farai and Bonaventure, who will play in the Turbine Hall.

Interactive activities include the chance to design your own Black superhero with character creator Wayne ‘Hard-Wired’ Riley, drop-in workshops exploring the writing of Black Power, and the chance to create a funk and soul-inspired album cover.

Night czar Amy Lame said, “The Mayor and I believe it’s really important that London’s night life reflects the incredible diversity of the city - whether you want to go to the theatre, visit an exhibition or party the night away.

“Uniqlo Tate Lates are a mainstay of London’s night life, so it’s great to see Tate Modern open up the Soul of a Nation exhibition free to all Londoners for this distinctive mix of art, music and entertainment. This is a fantastic way to experience the capital’s exceptional night time culture, showing London is open to creativity and to all people.”

Our critic Matthew Collings described Soul of a Nation as “ambitious and energetic” in his four-star review.

Uniqlo Tate Late takes place this Friday (August 25) from 6pm to 10pm at Tate Modern. Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power runs until October 22.
