Taxi bursts into flames outside Handsworth Park

This was the moment a taxi burst into flames outside a popular park. West Midlands Fire Service were called to the incident near Handsworth Park today (Friday).

The people carrier became engulfed in fire on Holly Road, by Sandhu Newsagent and Off Licence, just before midday on Friday (May 24).

No one was said to have been hurt in the incident. West Midlands Fire Service told BirminghamLive they sent two crews from Handsworth and Aston fire stations who managed to extinguish the fire quickly.

The fire service said the blaze was said 'out by 12.15pm'. An image taken by local community group 'Inside Handsworth', showed orange flames sprouting out of the engine of the dark coloured taxi in the middle of the street. The road was not said to have been closed to traffic while the fire service was at the scene dealing with the incident.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "The fire was out by 12.15pm. We sent two crews from Handsworth and Aston fire stations."
