Taylor Swift has finally put fans out of their misery by announcing news of a new single – and confirmation of her sixth album.

The 27-year-old – who has been teasing fans with distorted video clips of a snake – revealed she will drop her new single on Thursday night.

She then confirmed the name of her highly anticipated new album, Reputation, which will be released on November 10.

Swift also posted a black and white image of herself with long hair and wearing dark lipstick, set against newspaper cuttings of her name, leading some to question if it is her new album art work.

Reputation will mark Swift's first album in three years since the release of her multi-award winning album, 1989.

It became the best-selling album of 2014 and earned Swift the Album of the Year Award at the Grammys, making her the first female artist to win the top prize twice with her own works after Fearless in 2010.

Fans rejoiced the news online with many hailing the return of their “queen” while others claimed they had been reduced to tears.

Swift sent the rumour mill into overdrive when she deleted all of the posts on her social media accounts, stripped away her profile pictures and unfollowed everyone last week.

Fans took it as confirmation of new music, with some claiming they had discovered her upcoming single, which will allegedly be called Timeless, on Genius.

She then posted three cryptic videos of a snake, leading fans to speculate as to whether she was referring to the time she was trolled with snake emojis following her feud with Kanye West over his song, Famous.
