Taylor Swift confirms plan to re-record songs from back catalogue after Scooter Braun deal

Taylor Swift has confirmed that she plans to re-record material from her first six studio albums, after her former label Big Machine was sold to Scooter Braun, giving him ownership of her back catalogue.

Appearing on CBS Sunday Morning, the pop star asserted that there "absolutely" is a plan to revisit songs from records including Speak Now, Red and 1989.

"Might you do that?" interviewer Tracy Smith asked, wondering if Swift might re-record the songs.

"Oh yeah," Swift responded.

"That's a plan?" Smith asked, to which the singer said: "Oh, absolutely."

Swift released an open letter following the news that music manager Braun was soon to acquire her entire music catalogue, stating that she was "sad and grossed out" by the deal, which is worth a reported $300 million.

Braun's company gained the six albums Swift had released at the time, including her 2006 self-titled debut and her hit 2017 album Reputation.

In the letter, Swift accused Braun of bullying her "for years" and said she had pleaded with Big Machine to be given the opportunity to own her work before leaving the label.

"I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past," she wrote. "Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums."

The full interview will be broadcast on 25 August at 9am EST on CBS. Swift's new album Lover will be released via Universal Music on Friday 23 August.
