Taylor swift set to take to stage as Edinburgh fans excitement ramps up

The sun shone brightly as Edinburgh became Erasburgh and Taylor Swift fans descended en masse to Murrayfield Stadium for the first of her three sell out gigs in the capital.

After commuting through heavy traffic, jampacked trains, trams, and for many, colourful flights, the Swiftie’s sequins sparkled in the light as unpredictable Edinburgh skies cleared, at least for early afternoon, for the first of Taylor’s much anticipated concerts.

Swifties, who came from as far afield as the States where, it was cheaper to fly, secure accommodation, and buy merchandise, compared to some crazy ticket prices in the US amounting to more than $4000, were smiling as they swapped friendship bracelets in the queues.

Corie Gorski, 32 and her sister Kaylyn Milton, 30, who were inspired by the Reputation and Tortured Poets Era came to Scotland from Minesotta for Taylor’s tour. Taylor lookalike Corie who was mistaken for the star whilst buying a sandwich in the nearby Tesco wearing black sequined leotard and high boots, said: “Our mum made our outfits and sewed them by hand."

Ashley Stercula, 29, who was dressed from the Lover Era and her sister MK Arendall,30 bedecked in a Midnights, Karma outfit came from Texas and love the inclusivity and warmth of Taylor Swift. Ashley who wore a ‘Taylor made’ jacket with Edinburgh Era’s tour on the back and lots of stars said: “It’s the inclusivity. Everyone’s welcome. I took a few weeks to make this outfit.”

Fearless, Tortured Poets, Reputation, Red and other Era’s were represented by all the incredible outfits, with Swifties spending days, weeks and months ahead of the gigs, ordering costumes, making outfits and creating bracelets, with their peers.

Friends Olivia Cairns , 21 and Harry Townsend 20 came from London after bonding at work over Taylor. Harry said: “We love Scotland and I grew up here.” And Olivia added: “I heard Edinburgh is the most romantic city too.”

Mum and son Alison, 46, and Adam Mcintosh, 16 from Ayrshire, were amongst the first to arrive and were sparkling in the sunlight with their glittering silver outfits. As OG fans since 2014 - when 1989 was released Adam was wearing the Man outfit from the Lover Era in 2019, and mum Alison followed that with a Midnight dress from the Midnight album in 2022.

Adam said: “We saw got two face value tickets for £400 pre sale so it was quite good. And we’ve seen some incredible outfits like one girl with the Fortnight lyrics all down her dress. Alison added: “We came on Wednesday and it was quite quiet so we got our merchandise, went into the centre and got the bus back home, so we were lucky missed all the queues.”

For many it was a chance to catch up with like-minded people, many of whom said Taylor, songs reflected, their own experiences. Experiences of falling in love, breaking up, being bullied, being lonely and insecure, celebrating, friendship and so much more.

Husband and wife Denise and Callum Hawkins, 28, from Dunfermline, came dressed as Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince from the Love era - and told how they met Taylor Swift. Denise said: “We have been Swifties fifteen years and met Taylor Swift when her mum tapped us on the doubler at the gig and invited us backstage at the Reputation tour in Manchester in June 2018.”

Primarily dressed in sequins, Emma Furniss, 37 from Glasgow and her three friends were thrilled to see Taylor for the first time after buying their tickets in July. Emma said: “My favourite Era is Evermore because it’s so different for her and got an acoustic vibe. Her songwriting is just brilliant and I can’t wait to hear some versions live.”
