Taylor Swift has been warned by police about an obsessed fan who has claimed that he needs a gun to “protect” her.

New Hampshire authorities were forced to contact the pop superstar when the 58-year-old man boasted to them about being her ‘boyfriend’ while being voluntarily questioned at the station on an unrelated matter.

According to TMZ, the man even showed officers text messages with ‘Taylor Swift’ as the recipient.

Suspicions rose when he asked how many states he could drive through with a concealed weapons permit.

He also reportedly told them he wanted a gun to protect the 28-year-old pop star in Africa, although he gave no explanation as to why he believes she will be there.

Swift is due to start her Reputation tour in Lost Angeles in May, which will shortly be followed by Canada, the UK, Ireland and Australia before closing in New Zealand in November.

The police were unable to detain the star as under American law, stating you want a gun to protect someone is not classified as a crime.

However, the police reportedly did try to get in contact with Swift’s team to warn her against the fan.

This news follows another incident of an obsessed fan stalking the star, which took place last year.

Mohammed Jaffar, 29, was reportedly committed to a state psychiatric facility in September by the Manhattan Supreme Court after he broke into the pop sensation’s New York apartment building in February.

Jaffar also reportedly called her management 60 times in a two-week period. He allegedly came back two days in a row, ringing her doorbell and continuing to violate orders to stay away from Swift.

He was subsequently arrested in March.

Swift has since dropped hit new album Reputation and last week released her music video for End Game featuring Perfect singer Ed Sheeran and American rapper Future, who both feature on the song.
