Teacher calls on city schools to do one thing to raise £30k for Zoe's Place
A teacher is calling for schools across Liverpool to come together and raise money for Zoe’s Place. Primary school teacher, Emily McGowen, 26, from Tuebrook, came up with the savvy idea of holding a day in honour of Zoe’s Place.
Emily, who teaches at Lister Infant School in Tuebrook, said there is 150 schools across Liverpool, and if everyone of them asked staff and pupils to wear yellow and charge £1, they could raise at least £30,000 between them.
The 26-year-old said: “After the news about Zoe’s Place we were talking about ways we could help. We came up with the idea of having a day where kids will come in wearing yellow and donate £1.
"When I researched it there's around 150 schools in Liverpool and each school has around 200 students. When I did the maths that would mean we could raise £30,000 and that’s just schools in Liverpool. That for me is just an easy way of raising money.”

Emily said Zoe’s Place has had such a “big impact” on the city, spurring her to do her bit to give back. She said: “Even when I was in primary school we donated proceeds to Zoe's Place, it’s always something I have been involved with in some way. We want to do something that would help.
“We’re hoping schools will get onboard. It would be unbelievable, especially with it being such a local charity and it's something I have backed since day one. It has had such a big impact on the community and the way Liverpool as a city right now has come together is amazing.
“Even if we could just make some noise on social media. I know times are hard for everyone but one small donation of £1, or even just to wear yellow to share the message would be amazing.” Emily is asking for schools across Liverpool to wear yellow on Friday, October 18 and charge £1 each towards the fundraiser to save Zoe’s Place.
It was announced last week that Zoe’s Place is to close by the end of the year, unless £5m is raised to save it. The centre in Yew Tree Lane, West Derby, provides respite, palliative and end-of-life care for babies and children up to the age of five and has been a lifeline for many families across the city in their most difficult moments.
