Yahoo News Team behind Senna & Amy to make Tony Blair documentary
Having already focused his gaze on the tragic lives of Ayrton Senna and Amy Winehouse, as well as the nineties heat and hedonism of Oasis, Oscar-winning producer James Gay-Rees is reportedly in talks with Tony Blair about a documentary (we were hoping for a musical) about his life.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, a source close to the polarising former Labour politician said: "Blair's people met with James Gay-Rees. It got to the stage of Blair's people saying 'what about making a documentary around Tony?'
"They were really keen on the idea. It just ticks all the boxes.
"If you look at everything that James has done, he has focused on really interesting people."
It makes sense that a man who went from a fresh-faced political heavyweight to one of the most detested figures in the country, following the Iraq War among other things, would make a compelling subject for an in-depth documentary, particularly if director Asif Kapadia is involved.
On the subject of the rumours, a spokesman for Blair said: "We receive many requests from documentary makers on a variety of subjects, but have neither sought nor agreed to do anything of the nature you describe."
While Gay-Rees's line was: "We have not been asked to do anything by Tony Blair's office nor refused anything."
Gay-Rees and his production team are currently working on a documentary about the rise and fall of Diego Maradona, so at least there's something intriguing in the pipeline even if Tony and his people decide against the idea.
