Tech Billionaire Sean Parker Invests $250m To Change The Way We Fight Cancer

Billionaire entrepreneur Sean Parker is investing a massive $250m in a new kind of cancer treatment called immunotherapy.

The Napster co-founder and former Facebook president gave the grant to set up the Parker Institute which will research and develop new ways of fighting the disease.

Immunotherapy involves using the immune system to target cancer cells, unlike chemotheraphy which uses powerful drug does that kill healthy cells as well as those affected by cancer.

The technique involves boosting the patient’s immune system to work harder to attack cancer cells and is believed by many experts to be the future of cancer treatment.

Parker’s new initiative will involve 40 research labs and more than 300 researchers from six key cancer research institutes.

In a complete re-working of the way medical research is currently carried out, the billionaire philanthropist wants the scientists to collaborate and share their findings, rather than competing against each other.
