Teen Missing From Ferry: Police Find Body

Police searching for a missing teenager who leapt from a ferry on his way to a New Year's Eve party have found a body.

Jordan Cobb is believed to have jumped from the front of the vessel for a £100 bet.

The 16-year-old was travelling from Plymouth to a party in Torpoint, Cornwall, with a group of friends.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman confirmed a body had been recovered from the River Tamar and the teenager's family had been informed of the find.

He added that formal identification had yet to take place.

A member of the public saw a body in the river and contacted the Ministry of Defence Police.

An MoD launch, together with coastguards, was sent to an area on the Torpoint side of the river, close to where the ferry docks, and the body was recovered.

An extensive search for the teenager was launched after he disappeared into the icy water shortly after 9pm on New Year's Eve.

Hundreds of emergency services personnel, with Jordan's friends and family scoured the river, coves and shoreline for the Stoke Dameral Community College student.

The alarm was raised shortly after 9pm when he jumped into the icy water and disappeared beneath the surface of the river.

Police said one line of investigation was whether Jordan may have jumped into the water over a £100 bet.

Detective Inspector Nick West said they understood he had given his bag to a friend before leaping from the ferry.

"There is information in the public domain that suggests this is all a prank, that someone within Jordan's group has engaged with them in relation to a bet," he said.

Jordan's parents and two brothers were said to be "distressed and distraught" as they tried to come to terms with his disappearance.
