Teen has priceless reaction upon receiving first paycheck: ‘Why your face like that, Jojo?’

A teenager received a rude awakening when he opened his first paycheck and learned that taxes had been deducted from his pay.

In a hilarious video that was shared on Twitter by Epoch Times writer Anna Khait, 18-year-old Jojo is seen sitting in the backseat of a car and proudly holding up his check for his father, who records the teenager’s entire reaction from beginning to end.

“He got his first check,” Jojo’s dad can be heard saying. “First check ever in life, boy!”

As Jojo eagerly tears up the envelope, his father asks him how it feels to open it.

“Come on, pops,” Jojo says. “Let me just open it up.”

However, the second the teen opens his paycheck, his mood changes and his smile immediately disappears. He gives the check several glances in disbelief.

“Why your face like that, Jojo?” his father asks, knowing completely well that his son was expecting more money in his pockets.

Another man in the car suggests that Jojo probably didn’t account for the taxes that he would have to pay and, therefore, was caught off guard by the amount on his check.

“Were you expecting more?” the father jokingly asks.

The teen stays silent before he opens the car door and storms out.

“Oh yeah, they took out taxes Jo,” the other passenger says. “Welcome to the world. It’s a part of life.”

Jojo then returns to the car but not without expressing his displeasure.

“They finessed me!” he says.

In response, another passenger in the car attempts to explain the teen’s paycheck to him.

“So they took out employee Medicare and they took out your Social Security employment,” the passenger says.

Jojo remains adamant that he’s owed more money, though the passenger again tries to break down the numbers again for him.

“Look, you earned $280, but they still had to take out $21.42 in taxes, which is why you have this much to spend,” the passenger says.

Jojo still doesn’t seem to understand the concept of taxes, asking why he can’t receive his full earnings. The clip ends with his father and the passenger clarifying that not only does he have to pay federal taxes but he has to pay state taxes as well.

The teen’s reaction has since gone viral on Twitter, receiving nearly 26,000 reactions and more than 2,000 comments.

“Kid’s face went from 60 MPH to 0 in like 2 seconds,” one person wrote.

“I feel really sorry for the poor lad,” another added. “He was so happy then looked on the verge of tears. I’ll happily send him the $30. DM me kid, you have your whole life to pay tax.”
