Teen stranded in Turkey with broken back after paraglider landed on her while she was having a meal out
A schoolgirl is stranded in Turkey with a broken back after she was hit by a paraglider in a freak accident while on holiday. Lily Nichol, 15, suffered serious injuries after a paraglider landed on her while she was having a meal with her mum, Lyndsey Logan, and sister, Meggan, at a restaurant in the Turkish resort of Oludeniz.
The 15-year-old, from Chester-le-Street, suffered a broken back, fractured ribs and a bleed on her brain following the incident and remains in hospital. Her family are desperately trying to raise £45,000 to pay for the operations she needs before being able to fly home.
Sadly, the family did not have holiday insurance in place before their trip. Mum, Lyndsey, claims the family have been told they will not be able to bring Lily home until she has had two extremely costly surgeries. Lyndsey told ChronicleLive how they had been looking forward to returning to the North East last night before disaster struck.

She said: "Lily needs at least two operations. That's going to cost £45,000. And without the operations, we can't bring her home. It happened as we went for a last meal before we were going to travel to the airport. Meggan had given her a slice of pizza. The next thing we know there's just this paraglider there."
Lily is on a range of painkillers, says her mum, while she waits for the operations she needs. Along with the medical care, Lyndsey and her elder daughter are having to fund staying out in Turkey and transport to the hospital. Back in England, Lyndsey's family are desperately trying to support them. Cousin, Jade Storey, said: "You just don't think things like his can happen so close to home. It's horrific."
The family said they are waiting to speak to the police about the incident, too. You can donate to the fundraiser for Lily here.
