Teenage cyclist in critical condition after colliding with VW Golf in Newcastle

Police have appealed for witnesses following a collision in Newcastle

A teenage cyclist suffered serious injuries after a collision with a car in Newcastle.

Just before 9pm on Friday, Northumbria Police received a report of a crash on Walker Road, in the Byker area of the city. It was reported that a silver VW golf had collided with a cyclist.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and the rider of the bicycle, a 16-year-old boy, was found to have serious injuries. The teenager was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the car, a 28-year-old man, was arrested at the scene. He remains in police custody while enquires are ongoing.

Following the incident, an investigation was launched and enquiries are taking place to fully understand the circumstances. Officers are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

We are working hard to better understand the circumstances surrounding this incident, especially the moments leading up to the collision.
