Teenager, 18, arrested after 11-year-old girl ‘raped in abandoned tower’ in Dorset

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of raping an 11-year-old girl in Dorset, it has been reported.

The girl was allegedly attacked in the coastal area of Portland at 3am on Saturday, said Dorset Police.

The alleged attack took place in a disused tower known as the old windmill.

A man was arrested on suspicion of rape and has been released on bail.

Police said they would increase activity in the area.

The force said the girl is being supported by specially trained officers.

A police cordon was in place around the site on Saturday and police tape was wrapped around the tower, which was guarded by an officer.

The windmill is one of two such structures in the area.

Detective Sergeant Paul Chessell told the Dorset Echo: “We understand there may be concern from the local community in relation to this incident but I would like to reassure members of the public that a full investigation is underway in relation to this report.

“The victim is being supported by specially-trained officers and residents may see increased police activity in the area as this matter is investigated.

“I would urge members of the public to refrain from speculation in relation to this incident, particularly on social media, as it could impact the ongoing investigation.”
