A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of rape following an alleged attack at a care home for the elderly.

The teenager was said to have broken into New Thursby Nursing Home in Lytham St Annes, close to Blackpool, shortly before 5am on Sunday.

He reportedly climbed through a ground floor window dressed in black.

The assault was interrupted when a member of staff entered the room and the attacker fled through the same window that he had used to gain access to the building.
