Teenager charged after man died in three-vehicle crash in Lanarkshire

An 18-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a fatal three-vehicle crash on the A725 in Lanarkshire.

Van driver Viorel Ciucu, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision which involved a HGV, Ford Transit and a Mini Cooper at the Shawhead flyover on July 18, 2024.

The crash happened on the A725 at its junction with the A8 eastbound slip road, at around 11.15am.

The occupants of the other vehicles were checked at the scene.

An 18-year-old woman has been charged in connection and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A police spokesperson said: "An 18-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a fatal road crash on the A725 Lanarkshire on Thursday, July 18, 2024.

"The crash involving an HGV, a Ford Transit flatbed and a Mini Cooper happened at the Shawhead flyover at its junction with the A8 eastbound slip road, around 11.15am.

"The 50-year-old driver of the flat bed was pronounced dead at the scene. He was named as Viorel Ciucu.

"The occupants of the other vehicles were checked at the scene."

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
