Teenager jailed after man stabbed in street attack

A teenager from Aldershot has been jailed for more than three years after a man was stabbed in a street. Officers were called to a report that a man had been attacked by a group of men.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries. It happened on Churchill Way, Basingstoke at around 6.40pm on Saturday, January 13 last year.

Officers launched an investigation and arrested three men in connection with the incident. Two men were charged.

Segest Meti, 19, of York Road, Aldershot, was charged with conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. He pleaded guilty and was jailed for a total of three years and two months at Winchester Crown Court yesterday on Thursday (January 23).

The court heard Meti was standing over the victim holding a large combat knife, however it was not proven that he used it to inflict the wound.

Marko Karrabecaj, 28, of Mayesbrook Road, Ilford, pleaded guilty to assisting an offender and was jailed for nine months.

A 32-year-old man from Basingstoke, who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, was released and will face no further action.

Police Staff Investigator Michael Longmore, from the Northern Area Crime Team, said: “This was a shocking incident which left the victim needing to be treated for serious, but thankfully, non life-threatening injuries. Our officers launched an investigation and worked tirelessly to ensure we had enough evidence to put this case before the courts.
